Teachings from the Land
Embedded in teachings, Indigenous peoples around the Earth know that relationships are the foundation of everything in our lives whether at home, work, or school. What does it mean to be in healthy and reciprocal relationships with ourselves, each other, and Mother Earth? Why is it important, especially now?
Many people have been experiencing higher levels of stress and anxiety, even a sense of loss. As we witness and experience the impacts of climate crisis, aftermath of a global pandemic, wars, conflicts, and injustices, it is easy to feel overwhelmed at times. These events not only impact humans but all of creation. Reconciliation also needs to happen with the lands, waters, and all beings as they too have been and continue to be greatly harmed and disrespected.
Carolynne will speak of the concept Etuaptmumk (two eyed seeing) that Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall speaks of by sharing western science about our overall well being and our plant relatives. She will share various Indigenous ways of knowing that can guide us into being in a deeper and more meaningful relationship with all of creation. “Indigenous people only make up about 5% of the world's population. Yet they protect 80% of the world's biodiversity.” It is time to shift ones’ behaviours and way of thinking that separates people from their relationship with Mother Earth. Carolynne will create opportunities for reflection and individual change.
She will share these perspectives from family and Elders in her life that have guided her to build responsible and reciprocal relations with the lands, waters, and all beings. She will share knowledge about Indigenous (traditional & original) life ways such as foods and medicines growing on the land and how to support our overall physical well being.
This program is not only about what we can receive from the Earth but what we can offer back in forms of reciprocity to be in a more loving and respectful relationship with all of our relations.
