Turtles 101: We Can All Be Turtle Protectors

This webinar is for new volunteers and the general public to learn more about turtles in the city.

All eight species of turtles living in Ontario are “at risk” provincially and federally. Join Turtle Protectors co-founders, Carolynne Crawley and Jenny Davis to learn about the threats turtles face and what you can do as a Turtle Protector to reconcile human impacts on turtles and their home. You will learn how to identify the most common turtles living in the city, where to best spot them and why they matter.

Nature Walk in High Park

Carolynne will guide an interactive walk that will create opportunities for participants to connect deeper with themselves, each other, and with the Earth. Carolynne will share about the foods and medicines growing on the land, Indigenous perspectives of being in a healthy and reciprocal relationship with the Earth, Indigenous history of the park, along with scientific studies that measure the many health benefits of spending time with Nature.

Monthly Foraging Walk

Join Carolynne to learn about the seasonal foods and medicines growing in the area. She will share about the responsibilities of harvesting in a good way and how to deepen ones’ relationship with Mother Earth. She will speak of the importance of reciprocity as it isn’t just about what we can ‘get’ from the land but what we can do to give back.

This session is focused upon building relationship with the plant relatives.

Wetland Walk: Turtles Are Our Neighbours

Join Carolynne, co-founder of Turtle Protectors for a wetland walk in High Park to celebrate and honour the Mamma Turtles living in the area. Turtle carries deep meaning and teachings to many Indigenous peoples around the Earth. All eight species of turtles are at risk in Ontario.

The walks will focus on Etuaptmumk (two eyed seeing), a concept spoken by Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall.

This event is free and family friendly. Feel free to invite your family and friends.

Forest Therapy Experience

Carolynne, a Forest Therapy Guide, Mentor, and Trainer for more than five years will focus upon breaking down colonial ways of thinking that separate people from their natural surroundings. She will share the importance of building reciprocal relations with the lands, waters, and all beings.

Carolynne will guide a forest therapy experience along with sharing Indigenous perspectives to support participants to slow down and to connect through their senses.

This event is to raise funds to pay Elders, a Fire Keeper, Singers and Drummers for an important cultural gathering to kick off the season for Turtle Protectors to our work in a good way.
